> ## Agent Instructions
> Unkey is two separate products. Compute builds, deploys, and runs apps behind a gateway. API Management issues API keys, enforces rate limits, manages identities and permissions, and reports usage. Say which product a page belongs to; a reader can use either without the other.
> Every Unkey API endpoint is an HTTP POST to https://api.unkey.com/v2/{service}.{procedure} with a root key in the Authorization: Bearer header. Root keys are workspace scoped.
> Error codes have the form err:{system}:{category}:{specific} and each has a page at /errors/{system}/{category}/{specific}.
> The word environment means production or preview in Compute. Rate limiting has four meanings on this site; the glossary lists them.

# ip_rate_limited

> Your IP address is sending too many requests to an unauthenticated Unkey API endpoint.

> [!CAUTION]
>
> `err:user:too_many_requests:ip_rate_limited`

Your IP address sent too many requests to an endpoint that needs no authentication, such as starting or polling `unkey login`. Nothing ran, so it's safe to retry. You get HTTP 429.

```json Example response theme={"system"}
{
  "meta": {
    "requestId": "req_2c9a0jf23l4k567"
  },
  "error": {
    "detail": "Too many CLI login requests from this address. Try again in a minute.",
    "status": 429,
    "title": "Too Many Requests",
    "type": "/errors/user/too_many_requests/ip_rate_limited"
  }
}
```

## How to fix

1. Wait a minute, then run `unkey login` again.
2. If many people share one IP address, such as an office network, start logins one at a time.
3. If it keeps happening, contact [support@unkey.com](mailto:support@unkey.com).
