> ## Agent Instructions
> Unkey is two separate products. Compute builds, deploys, and runs apps behind a gateway. API Management issues API keys, enforces rate limits, manages identities and permissions, and reports usage. Say which product a page belongs to; a reader can use either without the other.
> Every Unkey API endpoint is an HTTP POST to https://api.unkey.com/v2/{service}.{procedure} with a root key in the Authorization: Bearer header. Root keys are workspace scoped.
> Error codes have the form err:{system}:{category}:{specific} and each has a page at /errors/{system}/{category}/{specific}.
> The word environment means production or preview in Compute. Rate limiting has four meanings on this site; the glossary lists them.

# deployment_not_in_progress

> The deployment already finished, so there is nothing to cancel.

<Danger>`err:unkey:application:deployment_not_in_progress`</Danger>

You asked to cancel a deployment that already finished. You get HTTP 412.

```json Example response theme={"system"}
{
  "meta": {
    "requestId": "req_2c9a0jf23l4k567"
  },
  "error": {
    "detail": "The deployment is not in progress. Its status is ready.",
    "status": 412,
    "title": "Precondition Failed",
    "type": "/errors/unkey/application/deployment_not_in_progress"
  }
}
```

## Likely causes

* The deployment finished building and is `ready`.
* The deployment failed, or someone already cancelled it.
* A newer deployment superseded it.

## How to fix

1. Read the deployment with `deployments.getDeployment` and check its `status`.
2. To take a `ready` preview deployment offline, use `deployments.stopDeployment` instead.
3. If it already ended, there is nothing to do.

## Related errors

* [`err:unkey:application:deployment_not_running`](/docs/errors/unkey/application/deployment_not_running): the stop counterpart, for deployments that are not running.
* [`err:unkey:data:deployment_not_found`](/docs/errors/unkey/data/deployment_not_found): the deployment does not exist, or your root key cannot write to it.
